During 2012 we again published information about many new sensors products from different manufacturers. Here's our editorial selection of those that we found the most interesting from innovation, metrological performances and technological points of view, focused first of all on smart and intelligent features. All these products have passed a two-stage selection: fist - for publication in the Sensors & Transducers Magazine as most interesting and relevant products (‘a choice of the month’); second - as most innovative products among all published in the Magazine during 2012. You'll find a brief description of products. If your interesting in more detailed description please check out the online version of this press release, which provides links to the vendors mentioned.

Series of Universal Sensors and Transducers Interface (USTI-EXT)

Technology Assistance BCNA 2010, S. L. (TAB) – a high technological start-up company has announced the global market introduction of the new Series of Universal Sensors and Transducers Interface (USTI-EXT) integrated circuit with extended temperature range. The new IC has similar metrological performance as the TAB's integrated Universal Frequency-to-Digital Converter (UFDC-1M-16) and the same functionalities as the USTI IC but can work in extended operation temperature range from - 55 0C to +150 0C (AEC-Q100 Grade0). In comparison with the basic USTI, the USTI-EXT has the reduced external clock frequency 16 MHz, but increased internal reference frequency from 625 kHz to 16 MHz, and as consequence, reduced conversion speed from 6.25 ms to 12.5 ms for relative errors from 1 % to 0.0005 % respectively. The IC has also increased baud rate for the RS232 serial interface: up to 76 800. Active supply current does not exceed 12 mA. The IC is available in two packages: 32-lead, 7´7 mm, Thin Profile Plastic Quad Flat Package (TQFP) and 32-pad, 5´5 mm, Quad Flat No-Lead/Micro Lead Frame Package(QFN/MLF) ...

Humidity and Temperature Sensor SHTC1

Sensirion presented the world’s smallest humidity and temperature sensor, setting new standards for size, power consumption, production volume and price. The tiny SHTC1 humidity and temperature sensor is specifically designed for mobile devices where size is a critical factor. Sensirion has rigorously followed the maxim "smaller is better” and developed the world’s smallest sensor in its class, measuring a mere 2 x 2 x 0.8 mm. The sensor is based on the proven CMOSens® Technology, which allows the sensor and the signal processing electronics to be combined on a single silicon chip to achieve small device size. Production is targeted at high volume to allow low unit prices to be achieved by economy of scale. The supply voltage of 1.8 V is also fully in line with the needs of the target industry ...

HRLV-MaxSonar-EZ ultrasonic sensor

MaxBotix, Inc., has released the HRLV-MaxSonar-EZ for sale to the public. The HRLV-MaxSonar-EZ sensor line features 1 mm resolution, target size compensation for improved accuracy, simultaneous automatic multi-sensor operation, superior rejection of outside noise sources, internal temperature compensation, optional external temperature compensation, a 5-meter range, and adds TTL serial output to the RS232, pulse width, and analog voltage outputs that are already standard on other MaxSonar products. The 1 mm resolution is so stable, that when measuring typical objects at a distance of one meter, the readings do not change by more than 1 mm. The best stability is available with the TTL and RS232 serial outputs with a typical error of  ± 0.1% at one meter. The pulse width has a stability of ± 0.2 %, while the rail to rail analog voltage output has a resolution of 5 mm ...

 Magnetostrictive position sensor PCST27

ASM extends its successful range of magnetostrictive position sensors POSICHRON® by the new PCST27 Series. The robust probe sensors allow for precise positioning of hydraulic cylinders or the measurement of fluid levels. The models in the PCST27 series have proven their superior reliability, even after years of use under the most extreme conditions. The PCST27 sensors are available up to protection class IP68 and are pressure resistant up to 15 bar. The absolute output offers linearity up to +/- 0.02 % full scale. Measurement lengths from 0 to 100 or from 0 to 5,750 mm are available. For easy integration into various systems, there is either an analog (with 0.5-10 V or 4-20 mA), a pulse (start/stop) or SSI output available. Longitudinal cable water tightness is a first in these sensors ...

Linear Position Hall Effect Sensor

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has released a new linear position sensor featuring non-contacting Hall effect technology. Covering short electrical strokes to 10 mm max and available with a spring return system, the 20 LHE is optimized for applications in harsh environments requiring long-life sensors. The 20 LHE features accurate linearity down to ± 1 %. The sensor offers analog ratiometric or digital PWM output, and it provides continuous performance for the life of the device with no drift of linearity. The 20 LHE operates with a supply voltage of 5 V ± 10 % and supply current of < 16 mA typical, and it withstands + 20 V overvoltages and - 10 V reverse voltages. The recommended load resistance is 1 kilohm for analog output and PWM output. The device is compliant to RoHS directive 2002/95/EC ...

 Accelerometer 8688A

Kistler North America has introduced a new family of single axis and triaxial lightweight, miniature PiezoBeam® IEPE accelerometers with optional TEDS, designed for the multi-channel modal and structural analysis of small or thin-walled structures, components and subsystems, as well as full vehicle testing within automotive, aerospace, commercial aviation and general laboratory testing environments. The single axis Kistler Type 8640A is the company’s dimensionally smallest, lowest mass PiezoBeam® IEPE accelerometer model, weighing just 3.5 grams. Offered in ranges of ±5 g, ±10 g and ±50 g with sensitivities from 1000 mV/g to 100 mV/g, the sensor’s ceramic cantilever beam sensing element is thermally compensated using patented methods that allow it to emit an electrical charge proportional to vibration ...
