Hybrid of Platinum Nanoparticles and 1-Dimentional Single-walled Carbon Nanotubes
Based Chemiresistive Biosensor

Abstract: We report a functionalized Pt nanoparticles (PtNP) modified single-walled carbon nanotube (Pt NP/SWNT) hybrid based chemiresistive biosensor for the quantitative detection of human cardiac biomarkers troponin I (cTnI) in normal human serum. The highly specific human cardiac troponin I antibody (Ab-cTnI) was covalently immobilized to site-specific carboxyl groups on Pt NP anchored over SWNT device. The biosensor device was characterized by the source-drain current-voltage measurements. The device performance was investigated with a change in conductance in SWNT channel upon exposure to different concentration of cTnI. Pt NP provided large surface area for high protein loading and improved electrical signal by inducing charge density in SWNT, resulting in a low level detection of cTnI over a concentration range of 0.001 ng mL-1 to 10 ng mL-1 with a sensitivity of 15 % change in resistance per decade.
