Development of Biophotonics System and Algorithm for Memory Damage Suppression

Abstract: Low-power photocatalytic technology is applied to the treatment of various diseases. Recently, the papers have been reported that the light irradiation increases Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) expression through the pathway of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) -cyclic AMP response element binding protein (CREB). The BDNF plays an important role in the memory mechanism. This study confirms that BDNF expression is increased in the immortalized mouse hippocampal cell line (HT-22) when irradiated at a wavelength of 660 nm through a photonics light source. This suggests that 660 nm light therapy is effective for memory impairment through reduction of neuronal factors in hippocampal cells.
