Beyond Europe book cover

Beyond Europe. The book  contains a text rich in information and accompanied by spectacular images, offering a natural and inedited discourse on author's business trips in exotic lands from Asia, Americas, Africa and Oceania. This journey agenda and, at the same time, intimate series of reports reflects the author’s impressions in his contacts with cultural environments much different from Europe, narrated in a fresh, ingenious, original and humorous style. In a multidisciplinary spirit, his book is full of historical, geographical, religious and economic information, presented with an unusual ability and easiness. Therefore, the reader feels like a direct participant in the world’s and life’s spectacle, as it develops at thousands of miles far from Europe. The book will be useful for all who are travelling for business trips (conferences, symposiums, workshops, exhibition, etc.).

Displacement Measurement book's cover

Displacement Measurement (Book Series: Measurement of Physical and Chemical Quantities, Vol.2) constitutes one of the most challenging problems in Mechanical and Civil Engineering, crossing very different applications and scales, from biomechanical and mechanical components to long span bridges and aerospace structures. It is the 2nd contribution from the same authors for this book series to be published by IFSA Publishing, focusing on techniques and sensors to measure physical and chemical quantities. Addressed to researchers with different backgrounds, the book presents in an accessible and concise form the various physical principles and associated techniques for displacement measurement. These comprehend the most classical techniques, based on the measurement of variations with displacement of electrical resistance, capacitance and inductance, or else optical techniques using electromagnetic, acoustic or interference wave measurements, still with open fields of research and offering a wide range of applications.  Complementarily and in a clear and systematic way, the authors discuss the advantages and limitations of the various techniques and provide information on the ranges of measurements and associated accuracy.

Sensors and Measurement Techniques for Chemical Gas Lasers - Sensing and Measurement is the key technology area in the development of these lasers. Advanced sensing and measurement technologies are required to acquire, analyze and transform data into information that is useful to enhance the performance and capabilities of these lasers systems. Beginning with a brief introduction to the basic concepts of sensors and transducers, classification of various sensors, the monograph discusses characteristics of various sensors, sensor signals, signal conditioning and their operations in chemical lasers scenarios. The emphasis is laid more on applicable diagnostic techniques, data processing and hardware selection. Further, design methodology and implementation of customized data acquisition system required for gathering and analyzing information in real time regarding various critical parameters vital for optimal system performance has also been detailed. The goal of this monograph is therefore to enable scientists and technologists working in rather complex area of chemical lasers to achieve the best technical performances. Till now such topics have been covered scantly in open literature and that too in the research papers only.

Ionic Polymer Metallic Composite Transducers for Biomedical Robotics Applications

Ionic Polymer Metallic Composite Transducers for Biomedical Robotics Applications. This book is written for leading edge engineers and researchers, working with non-traditional or smart material based actuators, to help them develop such real world biomedical applications. Electrical, mechanical, mechatronics and control systems engineers will all benefit from the different techniques described in this book. The book may also serve as a reference for advanced research focused undergraduate and postgraduate students. Specifically, this book describes a cluster of research which aims to not only advance the state of art through scientific progress in a specific smart material actuator, namely IPMC, but also serve as a guideline to demonstrate the techniques in which many more issues around developing future smart material actuators can be solved. Traditionally actuators are well known and understood and so designing mechanical devices is almost trivial, however developing ‘smart’ devices for complex medical applications requires designing from a fundamental standpoint. This research-design-development process is described in this book.
