Abstract: The first calix[4]pyrrole Langmuir-Schäfer (LS) film for the detection of fluorinated anesthetic agent sevoflurane, by Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) measurement was developed. The SPR signal confirms the formation of Langmuir-Schäfer film on gold substrate. This new sevoflurane gas sensor displays i) reversible sensing properties, reasonably explained by the formation of a structurally ordered LS thin films and by formation of a new hydrogen bond N-H-F, between calix[4]pyrrole and fluorine atom of neutral sevoflurane molecule; ii) fast response time and regeneration time at room temperature.
Keywords: Sevoflurane, Surface plasmon resonance, Langmuir-Schäfer film, Calix[4]pyrrole
