Accelerometers for Heavy Construction and Infrastructure Monitoring Systems

Endevco Corporation, has announced a partnership with Smart Structures, Inc. to provide a large quantity of 12M1A Picochip accelerometers in support of Smart Structures SmartPileR heavy construction and infrastructure monitoring systems.

Currently used on projects such as the Trout River Bridge in Florida, the rebuilding of LA-1 in Louisiana, and the Woodrow Wilson Bridge replacement in Washington DC, the SmartPile product family enables commercial construction companies to develop safer structures faster and more cost effectively by totally redefining the approach, cost and precision of construction quality control. Once construction has finished, the embedded wireless sensors provide state and federal agencies with continuous information on the operational heath of their infrastructure in terms of corrosion, wind, weather, normal usage, natural disasters, and man-made threats.

"We worked very closely with Endevco for two years as we refined our system design and manufacturing process," stated Tom Chiarella, President of Smart Structures, Inc. "Their technical expertise and dedication to helping us succeed were critical elements in advancing key functionality in our SmartPile product."

Smart Structures' selection and integration of the Endevco surface-mount 12M1A Picochip accelerometer was driven by the device's combination of small form factor, broad frequency response, high shock limit, and high charge output.

"Collaborating with a market leader such as Smart Structures to develop a PE sensor solution to improve their infrastructure monitoring systems has been very gratifying. This joint development is consistent with our strategy and capabilities to broaden the acceptance and use of Endevco's unique sensing solutions and grow within new and technically challenging markets," noted Scott Silcock, President of Endevco. "Given Smart Structures' innovative solutions and success in securing new projects, we expect their use of Endevco products will grow substantially over the next several years."
