Makeev Y. V., Lifanov A. P., Sovlukov A. S. Microwave on-line measurement of water content in crude oil


Microwave method and devices for on-line measurement of water content in crude oil are considered. The method is based on measurement of microwave power propagated through a transmission line and reflected from the load that is the TEM-line resonator, search of typical points (extremes) of relative reflected power dependent on frequency and determination of coordinates (relative power, frequency) of these extremes. Two modifications of the device were constructed for the measuring ranges 0,0130 and 0,01100 % of water content. Corresponding sensors are coaxial line filled in by low-loss dielectric with sectorial flowed-through channel and twisted dielectrically-coated two-wire line. Results of measurements obtained with these devices are presented.

Muratov K.R., Rushkov V.A. Estimation of the influence of corrosion process heterogeneity based on corrosion witness resistive sensors data


The influence of corrosion process heterogeneity on the surface of corrosion witness resistive sensors based on their electrical resistance values. New method of statistical calculation taking into consideration abovementioned heterogeneity is proposed. A possibility of remote identification of some heterogeneity parameters which can carry important information about aggressive environment (soil type, humidity, granularity, and so on) was shown.

Advanced Process Control (APC) comprises an extensive range of mathematical, economical, and organizational tools and approaches aimed at process optimization by means of controls improvement. From early 1990s, APC solutions have been widely applied in various process industries worldwide, and a decade later they came to Russian industrial automation market. Against this background, the paper overviews key application areas of APC, and especially of model-based predictive control (MPC) with the focus on benefit sources. It discusses APC applications in oil refining, (petro)chemistry, oil and gas production, gas processing, ore dressing, and other industries. APC development trends are outlined in the Conclusion.
